In 1973 David took an eight week, 260 hour Wallpaper Installation course at West Valley Occupational Center in Los Angeles, CA. which was taught by a third generation paperhanger. This instructional, “hands-on” training was very thorough and in-depth as this was the era just before pre-pasted and many of the standard wallpapers of today. This was when flocks and foils were popular and the majority of the wallpapers like Van Luit, etc. had selvedge edges. Back then, most of the adhesives had to be hand mixed and then applied to the back of the wallpaper by a large brush or paint roller. After working independently for a short time in the San Fernando Valley, he moved to the San Diego area and became an employee of D.M. Morgan Wall coverings, Inc. This was a company that specialized in mostly high-end custom residential homes which gave David the opportunity in both skills and knowledge of mastering attention to fine detail. Relocating to Eugene, Oregon from 1975 – 1979 and continuing to hang wallpaper, David put himself through, and completed four years of study at the University of Oregon receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation and traveling, David returned to the San Diego area, got his California Contractor License and started his own business, Coastal Wallcoverings. Building from the ground up, one client at a time, he contacted many of the Interior Designers, Building Contractors, Painting Contractors and Wallpaper Stores of the area seeking the opportunity to win their business. For commercial projects, he joined forces for a number of years with Cal-Tex Wallcoverings of San Diego. Throughout the next twenty years, Coastal Wallcoverings specialized in wallpaper installation with an emphasis on the more difficult and high-end wallpapers. David worked on many of the San Diego Designer Showcase Homes and San Diego Historical Society each year with great success having numerous of his projects published in various magazines. His reputation for detail brought him to all areas of Southern California, as well as Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Sasebo, Japan and most recently, San Juan Island, WA. In 1999 David and his family decided to leave California to move back east. They settled in Hagerstown, Maryland. Once there, he got his Maryland State Contractor License and started DC Wallcoverings. David established himself quickly with the local Interior Designers and Decorators. He found great pleasure wallpapering the older historical homes, not to be found out west. Again, some of his projects have appeared in magazines, including the 2002 Designer Showcase Home in Baltimore, MD, and also Frederick, MD. DC Wallcoverings will do projects in many areas in the To Contact David Clark: Telephone: 301-582-1001
